What is insemination (IUI)?

Intrauterine insemination (IUI) is an infertility treatment procedure in which sperm is washed and concentrated and then placed directly into the woman’s uterus (at the time of ovulation). The intrauterine insemination (IUI) procedure shortens the path that healthy sperm must take to reach the fallopian tube and fertilize a waiting egg.

Intrauterine insemination (IUI) is a common Male Fertility Treatment in Lahore for those who have trouble scheduling due to work schedules or have sexual dysfunction.

What are the stages of IUI treatment?

IUI is a procedure that must be planned individually. The basic steps of IUI treatment are typically;

1- Ovulation

Ovulation is the key point of treatment. The timing of ovulation will be monitored by the healthcare provider to ensure when sperm will be injected. Generally, ovulation time is 10 to 16 days after the first day of menstruation. Transvaginal ultrasound, blood tests to detect LH levels, or a home ovulation predictor kit will help indicate the correct time for ovulation.

Insemination will be planned within 24-36 hours after the doctor receives the positive result of ovulation.

2- Preparation of Sperm

There are two options for providing a sperm sample. The first is fresh sperm taken on the day of the IUI procedure. The second is the sperm that is given in advance and frozen until the day of the operation. After taking the sperm sample, the doctor will concentrate the sperm through a process called “sperm washing.”

3- Insemination

The final step of IUI is insemination. Insemination is performed through a catheter inserted through the cervix into the uterus. The person will lie down as if under the control of the gynecologist. The procedure does not require anesthesia, is easy, simple and takes only a few minutes. After the doctor injects the washed sperm into the uterus through the catheter, the person will need to lie down briefly for about 30 minutes.

4- Getting Results…

2 weeks after IUI, individuals can take a pregnancy test. Blood tests are ideal to get accurate results sooner. Home pregnancy tests may not give accurate early results.

What are the Risks of IUI Treatment?

IUI Treatment is a simple and safe procedure with low levels of risk. Just like other procedures, the individual may face some minimal risks, such as infection.

Some risks specific to IUI treatment may be as follows;

Spotting, The individual may experience a small amount of vaginal bleeding due to the process of inserting the catheter.

Multiple pregnancies; There may be a risk of multiple pregnancy when treatment with drugs that stimulate ovulation is planned. This is not directly related to IUI treatment, but to the extent of treatment.

What to expect after IUI treatment?

IUI Treatment Cost in Pakistan is a simple procedure, so the person can return to daily life immediately. However, some people may experience mild symptoms such as cramping or spotting for a day or two. These are rare but possible minor signs.

Vaccination (intrauterine insemination); at the time of ovulation, sperms that have been specially processed in the laboratory (sperm washing process) are injected into the intrauterine cavity with the help of special catheters. It is one of the first options in cases of infertility. Assisted reproductive techniques are methods in which the egg is removed directly from the ovary and pregnancy is created externally. Therefore, vaccination is not considered an assisted reproductive technique.
